What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles are caused by the loss of collagen beneath the skin surface. Collagen is a basic building block of the skin and provides the foundation that supports your skin's structure. Overall, exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight accounts for about 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging, and most of these effects occur by age 20. Collagen is also damaged by other factors, including: the natural aging process, cigarette smoking, and air pollution. When this happens, the skin appears thinner and becomes less elastic, resulting in facial lines, wrinkles, texture changes, and visible signs of aging.

What is the treatment like?

Fractional Wrinkle Reduction using Whipser-NG (Er-Yag laser) is a safe treatment. All Whisper Laser Resurfacing are performed by Dr. Abir Marcus. After making the patient comfortable, the patient's skin is deeply cleansed using an appropriate skin cleanser. Protective coverings are placed over the patients eyes. A series of pulsed laser beam are applied to the skin. The pulses are often described as a warm snap to the skin, and most patients find the treatment comfortable. Upon completion, the skin may be cooled to enhance patient comfort while reducing any residual redness. The final step is the application of Bio-Gel a Bio-restorative Hydrogel with PSP that contains multiple growth factors for the optimal cell renewal and rejuvenation.

How does Whisper-NG Laser Peel work?

Using patented Extended Ablation Technology, Whisper Laser removes the upper layers of the epidermis in a fractional controlled way. It peels away aged and sun damaged tissue and reveals the fresher underlying layers, reducing facial wrinkles and scars. Because the energy is fractionated, fractional beam of laser is delivered, leaving untreated skin around these zones that assist in healing and collagen remodeling, allowing for more effective treatments. Mild to moderate wrinkles are reduced, and the texture of your skin becomes more elastic, smoother, even tone taking away brown spots and other pigmentations.
A series of three to five treatments will reduce wrinkles and scars. This will help to reduce frown and forehead lines, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and wrinkles around the mouth revealing a more relaxed alert looking appearance. The skin tome will become even after the lightening of any pigmentation including age and sun spots.

Is Whisper-NG Laser Peel right for me?

Whisper Laser Peel is a safe and effective solution for most skin types. Patients looking to improve wrinkles or scars in a non-ablative manner without injections are good candidates for these treatments. You should not have treatments with Whisper if you are pregnant or have been on Acutance within the past 3 months. In addition, patients with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, or metal implants should not have these treatments. Patients who have diabetes, an autoimmune disease, history of cold sores, or have had injectable fillers in the area to be treated should let us know prior to treatment.

When can I expect to see results?

After a Whisper Laser Peel treatment, you can immediately return to your regular routine. Within 3 days, your skin will begin to peel and by day 5 all signs of the procedure will have vanished, leaving your skin looking and feeling smoother, tighter and completely refreshed. You will see results after your first treatment. Usually we recommend a series of 3 treatment sessions four weeks apart to attain the full results. Does it hurt?

Most patients undergo the procedure easily. There is some discomfort felt during the treatment which is sometimes described as a hot pinch. A cooling system ensures constant skin surface protection during the treatment. A topical numbing cream can be applied or prescribed to use half hour before treatment for added comfort if needed. After the treatment the skin will look and feel like mild sunburn and can be covered with makeup the next day.

Is there another way to get the same effect?

Alternative forms of treatment for wrinkles and scars include BOTOX® Cosmetic, injectable fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane or Radiesse, laser tissue tightening treatments with ReFirme ST with SR for brown spots, and topical therapies.

How is this different than other procedures?

The Whisper-NG is a non-invasive treatment that does not require injections. The laser removes the aged scared and pigmented skin and stimulates the patient's own collagen to remodel and does not rely on temporary substance filler. Fractional laser is the latest advancement of skin resurfacing. The procedure is similar to Fraxel, Affirm and Portrait with mild difference in technology used to achieve the fractional resurfacing of the skin.

Can this be combined with other treatments?

The Whisper-NG may be combined with many other cosmetic treatments in our office such as FotoFacial Skin Rejuvenation, the ReFirme Tissue Tightening Laser, BOTOX Cosmetic, and injectable fillers. Many patients choose to undergo combination treatments in order to achieve the maximum aesthetic result.
